Now that most peoples holidays have finished we are getting better turn-outs on Friday's work party and have been doing some varied jobs.
After several years of not working on the Cromford extension apart from some maintenance on the Rustons 3RB we have had several days on vegetation management and have filled up the log bags for the winter. We have also done some clearance on the line of the old railway towards the bridge under the A610 for the Friends of the Cromford Canal.
For the first time in a long time we have been working for the Canal & River Trust on the Erewash Canal. We had been talking to them for sometime about installing mooring rings and we have now concreted seven rings behind the piling above Potters Lock and grouted eight rings into the concrete edge at Station Road, Ilkeston.
This is particularly appropriate for visitors coming to the IWA Water Festival next August bank holiday and over the next few months we have other sites planned. With the IWA Festival being at Gallows Inn we have decided to repaint the plaque on Gallows Inn Bridge unveiled by Sir Frank Price in 1979 for the Bicentenary of the Erewash Canal when the ECP&DA last used the Gallows Inn Playing Fields for a rally.
Our work party meets every Friday, at around 09.30 at our cottage at The Great Northern Basin, 130 Derby Road, Langley Mill NG16 4AA please feel free to come along and join us.
