The Erewash Canal Preservation and Development Association (ECP&DA) have been fortunate to recently acquire an ex Canal and River Trust (C&RT) work boat named Pentland. It was transported by low loader, courtesy of Walker and Son of Tuxford, from Newark to ECP&DA headquarters at Langley Mill and was craned into their compound.
The 37 foot boat which spent its working life on the River Trent and the Erewash Canal was deemed as uneconomical for refurbishment by the C&RT. It will now be restored by ECP&DA volunteers. This will include rebuilding the engine and replacing some of steelwork in the hull, refurbishing the tiller and rudder and then repainting.
The acquisition of this boat will enable ECP&DA volunteers to access both sides of the canal to carry out diverse tasks including the clearing of debris and litter.
The volunteers meet at their Great Northern Basin headquarters (behind the Great Northern pub) each Friday and new members are always welcome.
The ECP&DA would like to thank the following: Paul Barber of PJ Barber Boatbuilder Ltd. Sheet Stores Basin, Long Eaton for the donation of sheet steel; Josh Hall of Dacrylate Paint Ltd, Kirkby in Ashfield for the donation of paint.
