Sandiacre lock has been emptied pending repairs. On 26th January 2014 it was opened by the Canal and river trust for public tours. This was the first time people had had the opportunity to go down into the lock. Despite the wet weather around 600 visitors arrived throughout the day. We were also pleased to welcome Richard Parry, Chief Exec. of C&RT and Paddy Brennan, Chair of East midlands C&RT. The lock cottages were also opened for tours and an on-going slide show talk about the restoration of the canal at Langley Mill. The day was a great success and it was good to see so many people enjoying the canal. We would like to thank C&RT for enabling this event and Sam Bliss of the Long Eaton branch of ASDA for providing tea, coffee, orange juice and biscuits.
